Canada Day: July 1
On July 1, 1867, the British North America Act declared
the provinces of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Ontario,
and Quebec to be "one Dominion under the name of
Canada." Twelve years later, Dominion Day was
established to commemorate the BNA's creation of an
independent federal government. Canadians celebrate the
holiday (renamed "Canada Day" in 1982) with parades,
picnics, patriotic concerts, and fireworks.
